Mike Fulton Receives Pearce Award

Dr. Michael A. Fulton has been selected by the Missouri Association of School Administrators as the recipient of the annual Robert L. Pearce Award for 2014.  Fulton was selected by a committee of his peers.  Seven MASA districts nominated a superintendent for the award.

The Pearce Award includes a $500 cash award to the recipient and a $500 scholarship for a student in the district of the award winner.

Fulton has been employed by the Pattonville R-III School District as Superintendent of Schools since July, 2007.  He previously served the district in several capacities including Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction; Assistant Superintendent for Planning and Assessment; and Director of Planning, Assessment and Research.

The Pattonville R-III School District serves about 5,500 students in suburban St. Louis County. Under Fulton’s leadership the district has become a high-performing school system that has been recognized at state and national levels for academic achievement.  The district has provided staff members with extensive training in instructional strategies that support implementing the curriculum with fidelity. The district has adjusted instructional practices to meet current and future realities and it has focused limited resources in areas that would have the greatest impact on achievement including providing high school students access to learning resources any time any where via a one-to-one laptop initiative.

The Pattonville School District recently passed a 99-cent increase in its operating levy.  Fulton attributes the success of the issue by not wavering from the district’s comprehensive school improvement plan and maintaining the belief that every child can be a proficient learner.

Fulton has been elected by his peers to serve on the AASA Governing Board and the MASA Executive Committee. He is a member of the Northwest Community Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Maryland Heights Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.  He is also a member of the Bridgeton Kiwanis and a member of the North County Inc. Regional Development Association.

Fulton is the twenty-eighth recipient of the prestigious Robert L. Pearce Award.
