Mentoring Program (AMP)
by Ann Ainsworth
For many years MASA has had a network of experienced superintendents to mentor new superintendents as they entered the field. Since 2005 superintendent mentoring has been coordinated by MASA through the program created by the Missouri Partnership for Mentoring School Leaders, commonly known as AMP.
The MASA Mentoring Committee will pair new superintendents with a veteran superintendent as a mentor. New K-8 superintendents will go through AMP for principals, unless they have previously served as a principal.
Successful superintendents in each MASA region will be asked to serve as mentors. Mentor training will be provided through the MCSA Online Video Professional Development Program.
Ten (10) hours of face-to-face contact is required between mentor and new superintendent. A log of such time must be completed and turned in to MASA for the mentor to receive the stipend. This contact time must be completed by April 30.
The new superintendent should log all contact hours with experienced superintendents in support of certification renewal. Mentor/mentee roundtables will be provided at the DESE Conference in August, MSBA/MASA Fall Conference in October, and MASA Conference in March. These sessions will focus on timely issues and leadership. They should be attended by mentor and mentee. DESE will provide program support as needed and be provided with mentoring data.
If possible, mentor/mentee matches will be made by July 20 of each year.
Cost to the school district for new superintendent to enroll in AMP program: $300
