November 08, 2011
Mike Lodewegen has joined the Missouri Council of School Administrators as Director of Legislative Advocacy. Mike fills the council’s government affairs capacity after Penney Rector accepted a position with Jefferson City Public School in July after 9 years of service to MCSA.
Mike is a native of Memphis in northeast Missouri. He attended Scotland County R-1 High School where he was active in football, basketball, student government, and campus bowl. He graduated from Missouri State University in Springfield in 2007 with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in political science. He has 6 years of professional experience in the state Capitol. Most recently, Mike served as senior legislative advisor to Missouri State Auditor Tom Schweich. In this capacity, Mike worked as the liaison to general assembly and helped shape and advance the legislative platform for the auditor’s office.
Prior to working with the Auditor, Mike served as legislative director to Senate Majority Leader Kevin Engler (R – Farmington). While working in Senate leadership, Mike assisted in advancing the public policy goals of the Missouri Senate and determining the bills that would be debated on the floor of the Senate. Additionally Mike has a great deal of experience in running political campaigns, having run Senator Engler’s re-election campaign in 2008 and worked as a consultant on several victorious state senate races in 2010.
In his capacity at MCSA, Mike will head our lobbying activities in the State Capitol and provide political advice to members for both lobbying and campaign efforts. Mike will be keeping our members informed of what is going on in state government throughout the year and what members can do in order to effectively take part in the political process.
I hope you will join the MASA and MAESP staff in welcoming Mike to our association. To contact Mike, please call 573-638-2692.
