Education Groups File Amicus Brief Regarding Class Action Suit

On Friday, September 17, the Missouri Attorney General filed a motion to certify a class action asking a court to make a decision for all Missouri public school districts.  This step by the Attorney General’s Office represents an attempt to deny communities across the state the decision as to whether or not to require masks in their local schools. Four public education groups have filed an amicus brief challenging the class certification and asking that each school district be permitted to make its own decision based upon local conditions.

The education groups filing the brief are not making a statement regarding whether masks should be required, but rather, because each school district and community has a unique set of circumstances, they are asking the court to deny certification so that local school districts can determine what is best for their students and staff.
