Aspiring Superintendent Cohort

High-quality leadership is essential to student success and district stability. MASA’s Aspiring Superintendent Cohort provides a comprehensive, hands-on experience designed to help emerging leaders confidently pursue the superintendency or other central office positions.

Applications for the 2025–26 Cohort

Applications for the 2025–26 cohort are now closed. Applications for the 2026–27 cohort will open in April 2026. Stay tuned for more information next spring.

Meeting Dates for 2025–26 (For Reference)

The cohort sessions are held at the Gary D. Sharpe Education Center, Jefferson City, MO:

  • June 25–26, 2025 (Wed–Thurs)
  • October 14–15, 2025 (Tues–Wed)

What to Expect

Over four days of in-person sessions, participants will engage in dynamic learning on key topics, including:

  • Attributes of effective superintendents
  • Building your leadership brand and marketability
  • Search firm consultant insights and school board expectations
  • Board/superintendent relationships
  • Interview preparation and mock interviews
  • Vision-setting, ethics, district culture, budgeting, and more
  • Peer review of resumes, entry plans, and letters of introduction

The registration for the cohort is $700 and includes hotel, training materials, and meals.

This workshop is ideal for principals, assistant superintendents, directors, or any leader interested in preparing for future superintendent opportunities. Through interactive sessions and valuable guidance, participants will:

  • Gain insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of a superintendent
  • Learn about contract negotiations, search firm processes, and what boards are looking for
  • Hear directly from experienced superintendents in a Q&A-style panel
  • Receive guidance on how to prepare for the job search process
  • Network with peers and build relationships for the future

Dates for the 2026 workshop series will be announced soon. Workshops are typically held in early spring at central locations in Missouri. Lunch is provided, and registration is just $75.
