MASA is sponsoring a series of workshops to provide assistance and support primarily for individuals who are new to the superintendency, however veteran superintendents may also find the information valuable as well. The program is called the "Superintendent Success Program" and is an extension of the school finance seminars that MASA has offered in cooperation with MOASBO for many years.
The workshops will be led by individuals with expertise in the subject matter being presented. The first four workshops will be held in Jefferson City and each will begin at 10:00 am and conclude by 2:00 pm. The fifth session will be held at the Lodge of Four Seasons immediately preceding the MASA Spring Conference. The sessions will also be available live on the Internet for those unable to make the drive to Jefferson City.
The first session originally scheduled for October may be rescheduled in the Spring of 2014. Effective Governance/Leadership Strategies will focus on Superintendent/School Board relations, school district planning, superintendent evaluations, and the evaluation of school district programs. The session will include a discussion of developing effective and efficient board meetings and professional development for Board members.
On November 14, the session will focus on school district debt management; realignment of budgets to met MSIP priorities; sources of financial distress; core values that drive budgets (branding); market trends; measuring financial performance; and key budget decisions.
On January 22, the session will focus on basic information that is important for all superintendents to understand about human resources. The session will cover topics such as Family Medical Leave Act, fingerprints, background checks, required training, sexual harassment, discrimination and special personnel situations.
On February 26, the workshop will focus on helping school administrators understand their APR, the MSIP 5 Scoring Guide, and how you can use data to improve the performance of your students. The session will also focus on interpreting data in your district, MSIP 5 performance standards and timelines for new assessments.
The final session is scheduled for March 19 at the Lodge of Four Seasons and will include a focus on how to successfully communicate with the various publics in your school district.
Each of the sessions will cost $85 to attend and includes lunch and all handouts. By registering for the entire series, attendees can save $25.
